Palm Sunday is the day we remember and celebrate the when Jesus entered Jerusalem as Savior and King. As Jesus rode a donkey into the town of Jerusalem a large crowd gathered and laid palm branches and their cloaks across the road, giving Jesus royal treatment. The crowd of people shouted "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"

Palm Branches were a sign of royalty going all the way back to the time of Egypt. They call us back to the Feast of Booths – a feast designated to remind Israel of God’s guidance and deliverance out of Egypt. And, in every observance of the Feast of Booths, the people were called to “take branches of palm trees and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days” (Leviticus 23:40). At the Triumphal Entry, Christ was celebrated by the people as the one who would bring His people out of the captivity and slavery of sin (the spiritual Egypt, if you will.)

Remember a week before he was crucified like a criminal, he rode into the city a king.

 “After this I looked and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’”  Revelation 7:9-10
